AYMASEAN Youth Movement

The ASEAN Youth Movement (AYM) was formed in 2008. It was the brainchild of Collaboration for the Young Generation of in Mekong Region (CYM) – a regional program of the Thai Volunteer Service (TVS). AYM was initiated as a new process/space for the young Southeast Asian to share his/her experience, ideas and local/regional social contexts to a regional platform. AYM has been a space for youth activists, students, NGO workers, entrepreneurs and youth allies to come together and support each other’s efforts for a better Southeast Asian community.

Brunei Youth Council is a coordinating body for all affiliated youth and welfare associations in Brunei Darussalam. It is non-government and non-profit volunteer organisation. One of the main aims and objectives of Brunei Youth Council is to unite all youth and welfare bodies in Brunei into one huge and solid council so that together we can strongly promote the economic, social, cultural, physical, mental and spiritual development of youth and instil in them a sense of national identity and a spirit of dedicated, responsible and useful youth citizens.

History of ASEAN Youth Forum

For the past 5 years, the AYM was able to successfully mobilize thousands of youth scholars and activists in various activities and projects concerning relevant issues in the Southeast Asian region. The AYM had organised the ASEAN Youth Forum (AYF) in 4 key cities of the Region (Bangkok, 2009; Hanoi, 2010; Jakarta, 2011; Phnom Penh, 2012). The main objective of the AYF is to pool together active youth leaders in discussions about current issues they are facing in their respective countries. The output of each forum is the Youth Statement, which was presented to the ASEAN Peoples’ Forum of the respective year.
